Canadian authorities are expecting more illnesses from the current listeriosis outbreak. One person has already died, four other deaths are under investigation, and there are twelve more confirmed cases of illness.
Toronto’s Maple Leaf slaughterhouse hasn’t yet been confirmed as the source of the outbreak, but a recall has been initiated that includes 23 of its meat products. Meanwhile, the plant will stay closed through Monday as workers scour every square inch of the plant’s processing equipment.
This seems a good time to mention that I really hate how slaughterhouses give themselves pleasant-sounding names like “Maple Leaf.” Link.
