Fox News on PETA

December 22, 2008

You’ve got to watch the below video. It’s a great demonstration of how Fox Noise smears everyone who cares about animal cruelty. And it would be hard to imagine a more venomous studio cast. One member actually says:

The greatest thing about this story is that they [two attractive bikini-clad women] claim to be PETA members. I’m sure that if any of us went to an actual PETA meeting, we would not find anybody remotely attractive. They are a bunch of lonely people.

I tend to think this sort of “analysis,” while despicable on many levels, is remarkably effective at accomplishing its goal. Fox picks and chooses the sillier and less effective side of the AR movement and presents this side as if it’s the movement’s entirety. And Fox’s viewers are therefore never given the opportunity to reflect on any of the more substantive points regarding factory farming or animal protection. As propaganda designed to deepen the scorn a typical Fox viewer has for animal activism, this is first-rate stuff — and PETA’s tactics once again play right into Fox’s hands. (Via DF and Ecorazzi).
