Research Challenges Conventional Wisdom About Heart Disease

The New York Times’ Jane Brody wrote a two-part piece on heart disease this month. The first article questions the use of surgery on symptom-free people, and includes this memorable quote from Dr. Michael Ozner:

Interventional cardiology is doing cosmetic surgery on the coronary arteries, making them look pretty, but it’s not treating the underlying biology of these arteries

Brody’s second article looks at the benefits of a Mediterranean diet, and how “c-reactive protein” may offer an early indication of impending heart problems.
