Mark Middleton at AnimalVisuals.org has just released this excellent graphic showing the rate at which cows, pigs, and chickens are slaughtered in the United States. One cow or steer is killed each time your heart beats, while nearly 300 chickens are killed every second.
Tools like this are incredibly important when it comes to helping people make sense of numbers that would otherwise defy the imagination.
