Recession Era Vegetarians

Gourmet magazine has a nice piece about people abandoning meat in order to save money. It’s a huge trend that’s annihilating meat producers:

…total beef demand is down 7 percent from the fourth quarter of 2007 to the fourth quarter of 2008—the equivalent of the entire metropolitan area of Atlanta becoming vegetarian.

Well, maybe the entire metropolitan area of Atlanta did in fact become vegetarian last year. Did they think of that? Well, did they? (Thanks, Gowri.) Link.
