Another Big Beef Recall…

August 6, 2009

And another sign the food safety system’s totally broken. The beef in question was produced five to eight weeks ago, and more than 800,000 pounds of this salmonella-contaminated stuff was sold. The overwhelming majority of this beef has doubtless long since been eaten.

If that’s not enough, the USDA doesn’t seem to know which brands are affected. Here’s the USDA’s actual statement:

Because these products were repackaged and sold under different retail brand names, consumers should check with their local retailer to determine whether they may have purchased any of the products subject to recall.

WTF? They’re kidding, right? Link.
