Animals Feel Pain During Kosher or Halal Slaughter

October 13, 2009

Observant omnivorous Jews and Muslims won’t like this one bit: a new study provides evidence that animals feel pain when slaughtered under standard kosher or halal practices. This suffering has always been fairly obvious, since throat cutting is bound to hurt, but now scientists have brain wave data that offers conclusive evidence.

The lead researcher writes:

It wasn’t a surprise to me, but in terms of the religious community, they are adamant animals don’t experience any pain, so the results might be a surprise to them,

So now observant Jews and Muslims who care about animals suffering are faced with an inconvenient truth. (Thanks, Matthew.) Link.
