HSUS Ranks Animal Protection Laws by State

February 9, 2010

Animal protection laws in the United States vary widely from one state to the next, and the Humane Society of the United States just issued a ranking. California tops the list with New Jersey coming in at #2. Third place is a three-way tie between Colorado, Maine and Massachusetts.

And here are the cellar dwellers; the states where animal abusers get a free pass: Alabama, Hawaii, Idaho, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio and South Dakota.

There’s much hope for rapid improvement in Ohio. If the Ohioans for Humane Farms initiative passes in November, Ohio could rapidly become a top-tier state in animal protection. Link.
