Jonathan Safran Foer on the Colbert Report

February 9, 2010

Eating Animals author Jonathan Safran Foer was on Monday’s Colbert Report for a five minute segment. Foer makes a far more eloquent pitch against farmed animal cruelty than you would ever see from the likes of Pollan or Bittman. If you want a textbook example of how to advocate for animals without alienating your listener, look no further than this segment.

I enjoy Colbert, but I’m disappointed he went through with his bacon-eating gag to wrap up the segment. I know it’s part of Colbert’s schtick to sneer at compassionate causes, but I think his attempt to laugh off the issues addressed fell flat. (Thanks, Andrea.) Link.
