Create Dunkin’s Next (Vegan) Donut

February 26, 2010

Last August I interviewed Compassion Over Killing’s Erica Meier about her group’s campaign to get Dunkin’ Donuts to drop eggs from its donuts. A month later COK released one of the most high profile undercover factory farm investigations of 2009, revealing the horrific conditions at one of Dunkin’s egg suppliers.

Unfortunately, Dunkin’ Donuts has refused to budge when it comes to phasing out eggs, and their entire donut line still uses battery cage eggs.

This past month, the company launched a contest: “Create Dunkin’s Next Donut.” You can visit their website and come up with the flavors you want, and give your donut a name. The winner gets $12,000, with the new donut becoming Dunkin’s latest and greatest flavor.

So what this means is that if Dunkin’ won’t create a vegan donut for us, we’re going to create a vegan donut for them. COK’s put up a great page offering details and tips, along with a daily donut gallery of vegan entries.

So, take a few minutes and come up with a catchily-named compassionately themed donut that’s too tempting for Dunkin’ to pass up! Contest ends March 8th, 2010.
