At an industry conference this past weekend, meat industry lawyer Jamie Foster referenced Animal Aid’s undercover slaughterhouse investigation, telling his meat industry colleagues:
They talk about animal welfare and I’ve heard intelligent people say to me: ‘But look, their campaign has increased awareness about animal welfare’. As far as I’m concerned, the campaign threatens everything about the way animal welfare is dealt with in this country.
That’s for sure, and it’s hard to imagine how any compassionate person could think this a bad thing. In light of what Animal Aid’s video revealed, anti-cruelty enforcement at UK slaughterhouses needs a comprehensive overhaul.
What we’re now seeing is the UK meat sector fighting tooth and nail to preserve the status quo, even though it’s abundantly clear that animal cruelty is rampant under the current system. Link.
