Factory Pig Farm Loses $11 Million Lawsuit

One of the perks of being a factory farmer is that, if you’re a sociopath, you get to ruin the quality of life for your neighbors without paying any price. But those golden days may be coming to an end. A factory pig farm has just been ordered to pay $11 million to its neighbors for generating a stench so bad that the people were trapped indoors.

The company, Premium Standard Farms, has now lost three of four lawsuits brought by a single attorney, for damages totaling nearly $21 million. Predictably, the company plans to appeal.

Lawsuits by their nature establish legal precedent that can lead to future lawsuits. Today’s ruling does not bode well for factory farms. (Via Shapiro.) Link.
