A New York Times blog reports that a team of UNC-Chapel Hill researchers has received funding to study whether people moving to a locally-based diet will enjoy better health. The obvious and only possible answer is yes — no further study needed. This isn’t because locally-produced foods are necessarily any healthier than the same items trucked from far away, but because people eating locally are much more likely to buy more fruits and veggies than the general public.
So we can be dead certain about what this study will find. Let’s hope a chunk of this study’s funding is earmarked toward publicizing its results. Link.
