No Need to Step Up Testing Requirements, Says USDA

I can’t remember the last time there were so many recalls in such a short time. The USDA has announced eight different meat recalls since August fifth.

Yet apparently the agency thinks everything is A-OK. Just today, Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer told Reuters:

I don’t believe that, from a USDA standpoint, we need to increase the number of inspectors or change the testing requirements.

Schafer then took another long drag on his crack pipe, muttering something incoherent about crop circles, UFO’s, and Mayan eschatology while looking longingly at a semi-clothed photo of Vice President Dick Cheney. Link.
