Rescue Underway for California’s Starved Hens

Animal Place rescued 850 hens, and Harvest Home has rescued another 17 who were languishing in a cesspool. That’s a massive commitment of food and veterinary care for the next several years; throw these organizations some cash if you’ve got it.

This quote from Annette Patton, executive director of Stanislaus County Animal Services, is infuriating:

There was contact with the owner today. He was very cooperative and moving things along smoothly.

Very cooperative? What an outrageous thing to say. Somebody heading an animal-care agency has no business giving a shred of praise to the man who appears to have deliberately abandoned 50,000 hens to starvation.
