Salon.com just published an interview with Empires of Food author Evan Fraser on the fragilities and possible impending collapse of our food system. This is an old subject, but Fraser covers it with a disturbingly clearheaded perspective that makes the possibility that he’s right hard to dismiss. He’s also got some pragmatic thoughts on which steps society could take to prevent a worst-case scenario of worldwide famine.
Still, this interview is a hella depressing read. It sounds like Empires of Food would be a great title to put on the end table next to your La-Z-Boy recliner, alongside Julian Cribb’s The Coming Famine, a bottle of bourbon, and a revolver. Link.
