Here’s an appallingly bad Slate.com article celebrating the virtues of lard, which the piece dubs “bacon butter.” It’s full of junk science and dubious claims that lard isn’t actually horrible for you, including this jaw-dropper: “Lard has clearly won the health debate.”
How this piece of crap reporting effort made it past Slate’s editors is beyond me, but if Slate considers this publishable food writing, it makes me inclined to distrust their political coverage as well.
Even without a nutrition background, I found numerous claims I could tear apart. But this is more Jack Norris’ department; I’m sure he’ll soon cover this piece on his blog, and when he does, I’ll post a link here. Link.
