A new study indicates that just five days on a vegetarian diet significantly reduces the presence of several harmful substances detectable through urine tests. Nice to see that there’s a clear immediate health payoff to eliminating animal products.
As I’ve written in Meat Market, there’s no solid evidence that vegans live longer than omnivores. But this new finding seems tough to dispute, and likely to be persuasive when it comes to getting people to reduce their consumption of animal products. I’d like to see more studies like this done, since this seems like one of the few health arguments for veganism I’d be comfortable making. (Via Grist.) Link.
