It doesn’t get any simpler than restaurant soup in a take-out paper cup. But boy does this look delicious.

TheAtlantic.com blogger Megan McArdle published a useful blog entry on shoes and handbags for vegan women. Good stuff. Link.

Yay! Just what we need. Another mass media story of a mother putting her kids on a vegan diet, and they next thing you know the kids are dropping weight and they’ve got mouths full of cavities.
Turns out it was a raw foods diet, and the kids, from what I can tell from the article, weren’t getting any Vitamin D, and God knows what else they weren’t getting. So what we’ve got here is yet another case of inept reporting where a vegan diet is made to look inadequate, when in reality the diet in question was a poorly planned raw foods diet.
I’m getting this powerful feeling of deja vu. The only thing I can say for sure is that following a vegan diet can clearly raise your blood pressure, especially when you’ve got to read incompetently reported stories like this once or twice a year.
Be sure to read the article’s comments for another reality check demonstrating how misinformed most folks are about vegan nutrition. Link.

I like to eat potato chips every now and then. The trouble is that they typically sell in five ounce bags. And since potato chips go stale super quickly, I always find I eat way more than I should — and then throw away the stuff I don’t finish.
But our Vegan.com store solves this problem. We’ve got Kettle Chips in little two ounce bags, in three different flavors. Best of all, we normally have them for under a dollar a bag with free shipping available. If you’re a fan of potato chips, this is probably the best way to get ‘em.
But through June 30, the deal gets even better. Just type KETTLE45 on your checkout form, and you’ll get an additional 40 percent off the Kettle Chips we’ve listed below. That brings your cost down to fifty cents a bag — again, with free shipping available. This deal rivals our Annie’s Goddess Dressing deal as, far and away, the best prices you’ll find anywhere.
We’ve got regular lightly salted, krinkle cut salt and freshly ground pepper, and sea salt and vinegar.
And if none of these does the trick for you, check out the entire Chips, Crackers, and Puffs section of our Vegan.com grocery.

And another bullshit risk analysis from major media:
There was no risk to public health because no part of the animal entered the human food systems, government inspectors said.
The risk isn’t from that animal. The risk comes from the fact that mad cow is obviously still in Canadian herds. And in nearly all cases, it’s likely that infected animals are slaughtered and eaten before symptoms appear.
Saying the public isn’t at risk because nobody ate that particular infected cow is like saying there’s no risk in the coal mine filled with poison gas because nobody ate the dead canary. Link.

Here’s an interesting difference between the USA and Brazil. In the USA, in any vast area of protected parkland, there are often people planting large tracts with marijuana plants. In Brazil, there are often ranchers illegally grazing thousands of cattle.
Turns out these outlaw ranchers are a primary reason for rainforest destruction in Brazil. But now, the government’s fighting back. They’re seizing these cattle, killing them, then donating the meat to the poor. Link.

Nine ingredients. Incredibly easy. You could make this. You should make this.

(Via Digg) Last year, my soul was permanently corroded by watching a concert clip of Celine Dion and Anastasia perform AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long.” It’s just been awarded the number one slot as the worst-ever cover song, a victory it richly deserved. Watch this clip and you’ll be permanently changed as a human being. Link.

Here’s a nice longish article all about agave nectar. This is something that belongs in your pantry, since it’s a great sweetener with a thousand uses. This article receives two demerits for including a non-vegan recipe at the end, but despite that it’s still well worth reading. Link.
