Onions can be a great addition to almost any savory vegan dish—from soups and stir fries to burgers and salads. They also add a nice crunch if served raw. Despite their status as a kitchen staple, many people don’t know the safe and easy way to cut up an onion. In this video, vegan chef Alex Bury shows you how to slice or dice an onion in mere moments.

Alex Bury was trained as a classical chef at the world-renowned Culinary Institute of America. She opened a vegan restaurant in the California wine country more than a decade ago, and has worked as an instructor for the McDougall Program. She has also offered her talents as a chef instructor for Whole Foods Market and Oakland Veg. She now works full-time for The Humane Society of the United States.
