2 Million Tons of Cod Killed and Thrown Away

For decades, European fishing fleets have had a perverse system in place enabling them to hit their exact legal limit in netting codfish. They’d catch fish beyond the legal limit, and then toss the excess fish overboard dead. The practice has been happening systematically, on an enormous scale, for half a century.

Between 1963 and 2008, this discarded catch amounted to 2.1 million tons of fish.

Yet another sign that worldwide fishing fleets ravage the oceans, are incompetently regulated, and have zero regard for life. Link.
