Are Humans Naturally Vegan?
(Via Dan) For years, there’s been a tiresome debate, usually based on poor evidence, regarding whether humans are naturally vegan or naturally carnivorous. But now this debate has taken an interesting turn.
One researcher has found evidence that, unlike other primates, humans produce a molecule that makes our bodies try to reject animal products. This rejection response might lead to heart disease, cancer, and arthritis among people who regularly consume meat.
I wouldn’t yet go using this as an argument to go vegan, but it’s an issue worth keeping track of. The article does a great job of describing this hypothesis while stressing that it’s all still in the realm of speculation. Perhaps new research will come along that confirms the ideas summarized here. Link.
