Arrest Warrants Issued in Bushway Cruelty Case

The wheels of justice turn slowly, and usually not at all if the crime is animal cruelty. With that in mind, there’s some good news today. More than six months after HSUS’ Bushway slaughterhouse investigation in Vermont, two arrest warrants have been issued by the state attorney general. The first is for a felony aggravated cruelty to animals charge, issued to a plant worker. The second warrant, for a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge, targets the plant owner, Frank Perretta.

Pure speculation on my part: I’m guessing the state attorney general filed charges because the county DA refused to prosecute. As we’ve seen in Santa Cruz, county prosecutors often refuse to do their jobs where animal cruelty cases are concerned. Link.
