Compassion Over Killing’s vegan donut contest has a winner. What a long, strange trip it’s been: 100 submissions, five judges, and 2000 votes. The winning entry is the Vegan Chai-Spiced Donut, which was dreamed up by Leinana in Brooklyn, NY.
The Vegan Treats bakery in Bethlehem Pennsylvania has brought this donut into being, and will be selling them for a short time. Dozens of retailers in NYC, Philly, and DC carry Vegan Treats’ products, so if you’re from the East Coast maybe you’ll get a chance to try your very own Vegan Chai-Spiced donut.
This campaign was inspired by Dunkin Donuts’ refusal to reformulate its product line to exclude animal products, and despite a disturbing undercover investigation of one of its suppliers the company to this day still sources its eggs from battery cage operations.
Introducing a Vegan Chai-Spiced Donut would be a great move by Dunkin’, and a wonderful way to enlarge its customer base to include compassionate consumers.
