Conventional motor oil is nasty, toxic stuff that won’t easily biodegrade. So it’s great news that there’s a new biodegradable motor oil on the market. The bad news is that it’s made from cattle fat.
The annoying thing here is that this product could just as easily be made from vegetable oil. But since this stuff is made from animal fat, it’ll give slaughterhouses a new source of revenue while allowing them to burnish their eco-credentials.
So what we have is yet another example of why making environmental arguments against factory farming is perilous. Red herrings like this can make even simple environmental arguments difficult to navigate. Link.
