NY Times Publishes 2nd Bad Review of Eating Animals

Jonathan Safran Foer’s Eating Animals has garnered heaps of praise from just about every book review I’ve seen.

Yet for the second time in one week, the New York Times has slammed the book. Regarding the Times’ first review, by Jennifer Schuessler, I wrote:

The good news is that the New York Times just reviewed Jonathan Safran Foer’s Eating Animals. The bad news is that the review is written by one of those annoying academic nitwits who vomit out big words in sentences that don’t parse.

The new review, written by Michiko Kakutani, is even worse. There’s an interesting backstory to this review that I’ll blog about later today. For now, I’ll just say Kakutani’s review is the most objectionable major media piece related to veganism I’ve read since the Times inexplicably gave Nina Planck a platform back in 2007. Link.
